What Is a Straight Tee Fittings?

A straight tee Fittings is a T-shaped pipe fitting with three openings of the same size. Two openings sit opposite each other on a straight line, which we call the run, and the third opening rises at 90° from the middle of the run, which we call the branch or outlet. Because all three ends share one nominal size, people also call it an equal tee.

The straight tee Fittings splits one flow into two equal streams, or merges two streams into one. Fitters weld the butt weld version between pipes, and they thread or socket weld the forged version in small-bore lines. When the branch must be smaller than the run, the fitting becomes a reducing tee, and when the branch is much smaller than the run, designers often switch to an olet.

ASME B16.9 sets the dimensions of butt weld straight tees Fittings, ASME B16.11 sets the dimensions of forged ones, and the materials follow ASTM standards such as A234 for carbon and alloy steel and A403 for stainless steel. The tee takes the same schedule as the pipe it joins, so it carries the same pressure rating as that pipe.

Straight Tee Fittings Types We Supply

As a straight tee manufacturer, we offer different manufacturing methods and material options to suit piping layouts, wall thickness requirements, and operating conditions. Each type serves a specific purpose, from heavy-duty process lines to small-bore connections.

  • Seamless Straight Tee Fittings: Made from seamless pipe without a longitudinal weld seam, this type suits applications where seamless construction is specified.
  • Welded Straight Tee Fittings: Produced using welded construction for suitable sizes and specifications, with radiographic testing available when required.
  • Hot-Formed Straight Tee Fittings: Formed using heat and pressure to create the branch, making it suitable for selected larger sizes and heavier wall thicknesses.
  • Cold-Formed Straight Tee Fittings: Shaped without heating the material, offering controlled dimensions and a smooth finish where the material and wall thickness permit.
  • Forged Socket Weld Straight Tee Fittings: Designed for small-bore piping, with socket connections for fillet welding under applicable ASME B16.11 requirements.
  • Forged Threaded Straight Tee Fittings: Features threaded ends, such as NPT or BSP, for compatible piping systems that require connections without welding.
  • Stainless Steel Straight Tee Fittings: Available in ASTM A403 construction types WP-S, WP-W, and WP-WX, depending on the required manufacturing method and inspection.
  • Alloy Steel Straight Tee Fittings: Grades such as WP11, WP22, and WP91 are used in selected high-temperature applications, including boilers and power plants.
  • Duplex and Super Duplex Straight Tee Fittings: Suitable for applications requiring a combination of strength and corrosion resistance, including offshore and seawater systems.
  • Barred Straight Tee Fittings: Includes bars across the branch opening to help pipeline inspection pigs continue through the main line without entering the branch.

Available designs, sizes, and material grades depend on the applicable standards and project specifications.

Why Choose a Straight Tee Fittings?

A straight tee Fittings provides a direct 90° branch connection while keeping the main pipeline aligned. It is a practical choice when a piping system needs to distribute fluid to another line without changing the direction of the main run.

  • Direct Branch Connection: Connects a branch pipe to the main line at a right angle for a simple piping layout.
  • Same-Diameter Options: Equal straight tees Fittings have three openings of the same nominal size, making them suitable for branches that match the main pipe diameter.
  • Simpler Pipe Installation: A manufactured tee provides a ready-made branch connection, reducing the need to create a branch directly on the main pipe.
  • Flexible Material Selection: Available in carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, duplex steel, and other materials to suit different service conditions.
  • Industrial Versatility: Used in oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, water distribution, and general process piping.

The right straight tee Fittings depends on pipe diameter, wall thickness, material grade, operating pressure, and connection method. Proper selection helps maintain a suitable flow path and a reliable piping arrangement.

Straight Tee Fittings Packaging and Shipping

We wrap each straight tee Fittings in plastic and fit end caps over the weld ends to protect the bevel. We then pack the tees into plywood boxes or wooden crates, with dunnage between layers to stop movement. Heavy and large-size tees go on strapped pallets under moisture-proof wrap. Stainless steel tees ship in separate packs from carbon steel, so no iron contamination reaches them.

We mark each box with the size, schedule, grade, heat number, quantity and purchase order number. Each shipment carries the commercial invoice, packing list, EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate, certificate of origin and bill of lading. Inspection reports, PMI reports and third-party certificates follow whenever the order asks for them.
