Pipes Fittings Weight Chart
Pipe Fittings Weight Chart
Sachiya Steel International provides a complete pipe fittings weight chart in one place. The chart covers seamless and welded butt-weld fittings made from carbon steel and stainless steel. Find the weights in kg and lb for elbows, tees, reducers, caps, and stub ends. The chart includes sizes from NPS 1 to NPS 48 and schedules from Sch 10 to XXS.
Use this chart to estimate shipping costs, plan lifting, check pipe support requirements, and calculate material costs before placing your order. The weights are based on standard ASME B16.9 dimensions and serve as estimates, as actual weights may vary by manufacturer and production tolerances. Each chart value shows weight in kg / lb
What Are Pipe Fittings?
Pipe fittings are components used to connect pipes, change the direction of flow, branch a pipeline, reduce pipe size, or close an opening. Common types include elbows, tees, reducers, and caps. Butt-weld fittings are manufactured to standards such as ASME B16.9, ASME B16.28, and MSS SP-43, depending on the fitting type. Carbon steel fittings commonly follow ASTM A234 WPB, while stainless steel fittings may use ASTM A403 WP304 or WP316 grades. The weight of each fitting depends on its type, size, material, and wall thickness or pipe schedule.
Types of pipe fittings:
- Elbows: 45°, 90° and 180° bends, in long radius (LR), short radius (SR) and 3D
- Tees: equal tees and reducing tees
- Reducers: concentric and eccentric
- Caps: close the end of a line
- Stub ends: lap joint ends used with backing flanges
- Crosses: four-way branch fittings
- Forged fittings: socket weld and threaded, per ASME B16.11
Pipe Fittings Weight Formula
You can calculate pipe fitting weight using the pipe weight and the fitting size. The weight depends on the pipe diameter, wall thickness, and type of fitting.
Pipe Weight Formulas
- Metric (kg/m): Weight = 0.02466 × (OD − Wall Thickness) × Wall Thickness
- Imperial (lb/ft): Weight = 10.69 × (OD − Wall Thickness) × Wall Thickness
Use millimetres for the metric formula and inches for the imperial formula.
How to Calculate Fitting Weight
- 90° elbow: Multiply the centreline radius by 1.5708 to find the arc length.
- 45° elbow: Its arc length is half that of a 90° elbow with the same radius.
- Equal tee: Multiply the centre-to-end dimension (C) by 3.
- Reducer: Use the average weight of the two pipe sizes and multiply it by the reducer length.
- Cap: Multiply the pipe weight by the cap’s end depth.
Example 1: 4″ Sch 40 90° LR elbow. Pipe weight is 16.07 kg/m. The arc is 152.4 × 1.5708 = 239.4 mm. Weight = 16.07 × 0.2394 = 3.85 kg (8.48 lb).
Example 2: 4″ Sch 40 equal tee. C is 105 mm, so the length is 315 mm. Weight = 16.07 × 0.315 = 5.06 kg (11.16 lb).
Quick rules: a 45° elbow is half of a 90° elbow. A 180° return bend is twice a 90° elbow. A cross is about 4/3 of an equal tee.
These formulas give approximate weights. Actual weights may vary depending on the fitting size, material, dimensions, and manufacturer.

Seamless Butt Welding Fittings Weight Chart
Seamless butt welding fittings weigh the same as the pipe they are made from, over the length of the fitting. Makers form them from seamless pipe or a forged billet. They run from NPS 1/2 to NPS 24 in ASTM A234 WPB and A403 WP304/316. Sch 40 equals STD up to NPS 10, and Sch 80 equals XS up to NPS 8. The tables below compare the main fittings at Sch 40 and Sch 80 (kg / lb).

Welded Butt Welding Fittings Weight Chart
Welded butt welding fittings weigh almost the same as seamless fittings of the same wall. Makers roll plate or use welded pipe, then weld the seam. The seam adds very little weight. Welded fittings suit large sizes, from NPS 14 to NPS 48 and above, in ASTM A234 WPB-W and A403 WP304-W. Wall thickness is the key input here, so columns show wall in mm and inches (kg / lb).

Butt Weld Tee Weight Chart
A 4" Sch 40 equal butt weld tee weighs 5.06 kg (11.16 lb). The weight follows three times the center-to-end dimension, since run and branch are the same length on an equal tee. A reducing tee weighs 5% to 15% less, because the branch pipe is smaller. A cross weighs about 4/3 of the equal tee.

Stub End Weight Chart
Stub end weight equals the pipe weight per meter times the stub length, plus a few percent for the flared lap. Short and long patterns follow ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43. Take the kg/m value from the pipe weight chart above, then multiply by the stub length F in meters.
Example: A 4" Sch 40 stub end, 152 mm long, weighs 16.07 × 0.152 = 2.44 kg (5.39 lb) before the lap. A long pattern stub end uses more pipe than a short one. Match the stub end schedule to the pipe schedule so the weld ends line up.
Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings Weight Chart
Stainless steel fittings weigh about 1% to 2% more than carbon steel fittings of the same size, because stainless has a higher density. Take the carbon steel weight and multiply it by the grade factor.

Forged Pipe Fittings Weight Chart
Forged pipe fittings have thick, strong walls designed to handle high pressure. Their weight depends on the fitting type, size, pressure class, and material grade.
The ASME B16.11 standard covers socket-weld fittings in Classes 3000, 6000, and 9000, as well as threaded fittings in Classes 2000, 3000, and 6000. These fittings are available in sizes from 1/8 inch to 4 inches. In general, higher pressure classes require thicker fitting walls, which can increase the overall weight.
Common forged fittings include elbows, tees, couplings, unions, and caps. Carbon steel versions often use ASTM A105, while stainless steel options may use ASTM A182 F304 or F316. To estimate stainless steel fitting weights, apply the appropriate material factors to the base weights, where applicable. Actual weights may vary by manufacturer, dimensions, and material grade.
Applications of Pipe Fittings
- Oil and Gas: Join pipelines, risers and process piping.
- Petrochemical: Handle hot, corrosive fluids in plant lines.
- Power Generation: Carry steam and feedwater in boilers and turbines.
- Water Treatment: Connect desalination and distribution lines.
- Shipbuilding: Route seawater, fuel and cooling lines on vessels.
- Pharmaceutical and Food Processing: Keep clean fluid lines in stainless steel.
- Fertilizer and Chemical Plants: Resist acids, ammonia and urea.
