What Are Long Stub End Fittings?
Long stub end fittings are butt weld lap joint stub ends made in the long pattern. One end carries a flared collar, called the lap, that forms the sealing face. The other end is bevelled for welding to the pipe, and the barrel between the two is longer than on a short pattern stub end.
A loose backing flange slides over the barrel and bolts to the mating flange, which presses the laps together against a gasket. Because the barrel is longer, the flange has more room to slide, and the welder has more room to work.
